UPDATE: Yom Kippur 5783 Services

Monday, October 3, 2022

Dear Friends,

We look forward to coming together tomorrow evening and Wednesday, for the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. And we're writing to let you know that we'll be even more together than planned this Yom Kippur!

Cantor Sarah Myerson has tested positive for COVID-19, and will be unable to be with us for the holiday. Given this turn of events, Joey Weisenberg, who cut his teeth at Kane Street and has been leading our Goldman Service annually for 15 years, will be leading the Sanctuary Service with Rabbi Dardashti. Services coordinators for both the Goldman and Sanctuary services graciously agreed that it made most sense to join forces in this way and thus, we will be davenning (praying) under one dome at Kane Street this Yom Kippur.

This means that our Sanctuary will be quite full! We’re therefore writing to encourage those who are immunocompromised to mask and to ask that anyone with symptoms of a cold brewing to please self-test or stay home. We will maintain the Tompkins Place side of the Sanctuary as a mask-mandatory space and expect to be able to keep it relatively socially distanced. We are also providing an overflow space with a video simulcast of our services.

Family and Youth Services on Yom Kippur morning will continue as planned, but likely in an indoor space, given the current forecast of rain. For the full Yom Kippur schedule of services, go to kanestreet.org/luach.

To help manage the flow of people, we ask that you please enter through the doors of the Goldman Building to check in, then make your way to the Sanctuary, Family Service venue, or to the overflow space. The ramp and accessible doors will be available for those who need them.

This year will be different—but unpredictability and change are the themes of the season, so we’re all leaning in! And if you want to avoid the crowds and lean in online, you can certainly watch our livestream from home. We look forward to being together for this very special Yom Kippur.

We wish Cantor Sarah refuah shleimah—a speedy recovery!

May we all be inscribed (and inscribe ourselves) for a year of goodness — G’Mar Chatima Tovah,
